Digestive System
Sheep are an example of an animal with a ruminant digestion system. This means they have 4 "stomachs". They need this to break down all the coarse, fibrous food in their diet. the 4 stomachs are Rumen, Reticulum, Omasum and Abomasum. Ruminant animals break down cellulose, with the help of bacteria located within the digestive system. The Rumen and Reticulum have a similar Function: they churn and break down food. This where most of the bacteria are located. The Omasum removes most of the water. The Abomasum releases acids to break down food.
